President Maxcy Visits China

IASE President Joel Maxcy traveled to the People’s Republic of China in April. Professor Maxcy was a guest of the China General administration of Sport and the China Wushu Association. On April 24, he delivered a talk—The Economics of Sports Industry Standards—at the Forum on Wushu and Martial Arts Standardization, part of the 2016 China International Sporting Goods Show in Fuzhou, Fujian Province. Professor Maxcy also attended Wushu demonstrations and toured the Province’s Olympic Training Center.

While in China Professor Maxcy met with Dr. Liu Dongfeng, Professor and Associate Dean at Shanghai University of Sport. Professors Maxcy and Dongfeng discussed hosting the next conference and IASE General Assembly in Shanghai in 2017. The conference offers IASE an excellent opportunity to increase its presence in Asia. The conference may be held in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Shanghai University of Sport.
